IPMA-HR International Training Conference and IPAC Annual Conference to meet jointly - Sept. 12-16

     The 2009 IPMA-HR International Training Conference & Exposition and the 2009 IPAC (formerly IPMAAC) Annual Conference will be held jointly in Nashville, Tennessee, September 12-16, 2009. The joint conference will provide enhanced networking and professional development opportunities.
     Full conference participants with three or more staff from the same organization/agency can deduct $25 from the applicable registration fee for each registrant. Each member of the group must complete a registration form. The Virginia Chapter IPMA-HR is considered an organization/agency (chapters with three or more full conference participants can deduct $25 from the applicable registration fee for each registrant). Each member of the group must complete a registration form. The IPMA-HR headquarters will keep a folder for the chapter. When attending chapter members fax their completed form with payment to us, they simply mark the chapter name clearly on the top. If we don’t get the 3 registrations then participants don’t get the discount.  Conference information is available HERE

Debby Didawick Honorary Scholarship Established

In honor of the late Debby Didawick, PHR, long time chapter member and Human Resources Director for Frederick County, Virginia, the Virginia Chapter IPMA-HR has established a scholarship for chapter members who seek to increase their capacity in public human resources through continuing education. The scholarship will be awarded annually for individuals pursuing a college degree or IPMA-HR certification. NEW I-9 FORM TO BE USED 4/3/09

The Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has updated the Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9. The current version of this form will be valid through April 2, 2009 and the new form must be used beginning April 3, 2009. Additional information is available on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

Positions on Public Employer-Employee Cooperation Act of 2007 (HR 980)

Chesterfield University Receives 2 Awards

Congratulations to Chesterfield University.  They were named to Training Magazine’s Top 125. This year they are #45 (up from #53). Chesterfield University was the only local government to make this list. They also received the Corporate University Exchange Silver Award for Best Practices for Alignment.

FMLA Provisions Expanded

President Bush signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008.  The law includes two provisions expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act for military families.  More information HERE.
